Once again, change is coming
One of the unique things about Rotary is that change is always just around the corner.
The organization started just over 110 years ago. Within 16 years of its founding Rotary was on 6 continents working to resolve or assist in some of the worlds biggest issues.
The list of current or former Rotarians is truly a who’s who list of individuals.
Marconi (think wireless radio)
Harding (U.S. President)
Mayo (founder of the Mayo Clinic)
Byrd (American explorer)
J.C. Penney (J.C. Penney)
Greenfield (The Grinch)
In its existence, there has only been 1 president that served more than 1 term: that being the first, Paul Harris. Each year not only does the RI president change but so do the presidents of each of the 32,000+ clubs. Club presidents, vice presidents, District Governors, etc all around the world change at the same time, July 1.
There is no reason for campaign finance reform, talk of term limits, or red/blue, black/white, christian/muslim debates. It all changes.
(To be honest, some small clubs will have the same president for one or more years simply because they do not have the people to turn over the job. But they still start fresh July 1)
Each person steps up, serves a year, and is gone as the next year roles around.
The RCCC is no different. Since 1993 we have had 22 different presidents, vice presidents, presidents elect, etc. Each one served exactly 1 year. And guess what? This July 1, 2015 we will have another prez as we enter year 23.
Jason Lee has been through numerous training sessions over the past several months and has been working up through the ranks as vp, prez elect and soon…president getting ready to take the reins.
It seems like a daunting task being president but in reality our club runs on the strength of its members. There is no way that we could accomplish the things we do, (Oktoberfest, 20 Hands on Projects, RISE, Lincoln Elementary, Community Service giving, International projects in multiple countries, fellowship events, etc, etc) without a truly dedicated group of individuals.
As we change again on July 1 I would ask that you provide the same assistance and support to Jason that I have been shown in the past year, and that has been shown to the other 21 past presidents.
