Star Scout Assists RCCC Bikes For The World Project
Our Club’s Bikes For The World Committee is sustaining its bicycle collection efforts over the summer, supplying Bikes For The World used-yet-serviceable bicycles for shipment to non-governmental organization partners in Africa, Central America and The Philippines.
Weekly, Rotarian Norm Birzer orchestrates pick-ups of bicycles and bicycle accessories at The Bicycle Escape at Worman’s Mill and Reliable Recycling on Reichs Ford Road. On Friday, July 3rd, as an example, Norm and his grandson, Star Scout Thomas Grenier, picked up one bike and lots of tires and tubes at The Bicycle Escape, and 11 bikes at Reliable Recycling, and transported them to Buzz Macintosh’s vacant dairy barn in Adamstown, where the team removed pedals and re-oriented handlebars for containerization.
Since the RCCC’s 2015 community bicycle collection in April, the Rotary Club of Carroll Creek has shipped 104 bicycles to Bikes For The World. Today’s twelve bicycles will be included in the ever-growing stream of bicycles, which are changing lives by providing economical transportation to employment, schools and health care in developing regions of the world.
Post-script: Who knows. . . . .maybe Star Scout Thomas Grenier will organize a bicycle collection for his Eagle Scout project!
